Two Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Boxes

China, 19th – 20th century
Dimensions Larger: 4” x 2 ½” (10 x 6.6 cm)
Of oblong form and deeply carved with flowers of the four seasons, inset to the centre with a carved bone pendant of a Daoist immortal, the sides of the box similarly carved with floral motifs and base and interior lacquered black. TOGETHER WITH a second box of round form and carved on the cover roundel with figures in a garden scene with mountains in the background, the sides with rosettes and diaper pattern, lacquered black to interior and base.
