Kangxi Blue and White Lotus Ginger Jar and Cover
清康熙 花卉纹青花盖罐
China, Qing dynasty, 17th century
Dimensions: 8 1/8″(20.5cm) W, 10 3/8″(26.4cm) H
Ovoid form ginger jar with an unglazed rim and hidden footring. The body painted in fine underglaze blue of lotus and flowering branched bordered above and below with ogee form dentals with arabesque lotus and tendrils reserved on blue ground. The base with a leaf and sacred ribbon mark. 20th century wood covers. Originally in a pair.
Compare with a single jar 28.3 cm H, with a Kangxi porcelain (not original) cover found in Sotheby’s London sale, 06NOV2013, Lot 115, previously sold in same sale 9MAY1989, Lot 2.
