Cloisonne Fish Bowl or Jardiniere

清 銅掐絲琺瑯花卉蝴蝶紋大缸

China and Japan, 13th century and later additions

A large tea caddy (chaire) created from two deep tixi (guri) carved cinnabar and black lacquer bowls of the Yuan dynasty, joined rim to rim and the bottom of one removed to form the mouth of the caddy. The base with addition lacquer added for stability and a Japanese natural carved cover (futa) of late 19th century dating.
